The Genealogy club will host this event at the Bedford Public Library on Tuesday, November 28th from 10-11:30am.

Jessie Klein is Co-President of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Boston and has served as a co-director of the Society’s course, Jewish Genealogy: Discover Your Family History. She has been doing family research for ten years.

Sunday Brunch featuring Don Kirsch

The Drug Hunters

Where New Medicines Actually Come From: The Surprising Inside Story

Most people believe that discovering a new drug is like designing a new smart phone or a new jet airliner. But that comparison is not even close. The discovery of new drugs does require lots of hard work and smarts, but that’s just the beginning. Lucky accidents and following results that seem to go in exactly the wrong direction are just as, if not more, important. Find out why 21st century science has yet to develop a better way to discover new disease treatments. Donald Kirsch has more than 35 years of pharmaceutical industry research experience (Squibb, Cyanamid, Wyeth, Cambria Pharmaceuticals) and currently holds an adjunct faculty appointment at Harvard Extension School. He is the author of over fifty scientific research papers, an inventor on twenty-five patents and the author of a new book, “The Drug Hunters: The Improbable Quest to Discover New Medicines”.
